FC Barcelona is set to make a crucial decision in January regarding the future of its stadium, the Camp Nou. The club will choose between two options: renovating the current venue or constructing an entirely new stadium. The selected option will then be presented to the club’s members through a referendum.
Toni Freixa, the club’s spokesperson, revealed that both projects are under consideration, and a decision will be made thoughtfully and without haste. The spokesperson emphasized that, regardless of the chosen option, the renovated or new stadium would have a capacity of 105,000 spectators, compared to the current capacity of 99,354, and it would be fully covered.
Freixa disclosed that if the decision favors building a new stadium, it would be located on the grounds of the University of Barcelona. However, details regarding the cost of the plans were not provided during the press conference. According to press reports, the construction of a new stadium is estimated to cost around 600 million euros, while a renovation of the Camp Nou is projected to be between 300 and 400 million euros. The decision holds significant importance for the future infrastructure and fan experience of FC Barcelona.
