Zinedine Zidane, one of the dignitaries invited to the draw for the 2014 World Cup, has expressed his preference for a challenging group for France. The former French international, currently serving as the assistant coach of Real Madrid, believes that facing tough opponents from the start would be in the best interest of the French team. Zidane stated on the FIFA website, “A difficult group, from the start, would be best for France, to get to the heart of the matter.” He added, “We will see on Friday what happens (in the draw), but the best thing would be to come up against difficult teams, to say to ourselves ‘we have to get out of this group.’ Maybe for other selections, this will not be the case, but for the French, it is the best.”
As a result, Zidane would likely appreciate the simulated draw, which places France alongside Brazil, Italy, and Australia.
