Cape Town City secures signing of Khanya Leshabela to revamp midfield

Cape Town City officially announced the signing of South African international midfielder Khanya Leshabela on Monday, February 19. The 24-year-old, who had been without a club for some time, is set to revive his professional career with Cape Town City after successfully completing a month-long trial.

Leshabela, formerly associated with Leicester City, has inked a contract that will extend at least until the conclusion of the current season.

The announcement was made through the official Citizens X account, stating, “The club is pleased to confirm the signing of Khanya Leshabela.

The 24-year-old South African midfielder joins the Citizens as coach Eric looks to strengthen his squad for the upcoming season!”

Having undergone rigorous testing at Cape Town City’s facilities, Leshabela managed to impress the technical staff, earning himself a spot in the team.

Originally from Soshanguve, South Africa, Leshabela’s early years in football were spent in England, predominantly featuring in the Premier League reserves.

His journey includes progressing through Leicester City’s youth categories, namely U19, U18, U21, and U23.

During his career, Leshabela also gained valuable experience on loan spells, notably with Shrewsbury Town (9 matches) and Crewe Alexandra (13 matches in 2022/23).

With a tally of 6 goals and 5 assists in 154 matches, the dynamic midfielder brings a wealth of experience and skill to Cape Town City’s midfield as they aim to fortify their squad for the upcoming challenges.
