Opinion: awakening Walid from the Qatar dream

مقال رأي أيقظوا وليد من حلم قطر 780x470 1

In an exclusive interview with Moroccan national team coach Walid Regragui sought to explain the reasons behind Morocco’s failure at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Atlas Lions were eliminated in the round of 16 after a defeat to South Africa by two goals to nil.

Regragui attributed his team’s shortcomings in the AFCON to the high temperature and humidity in San Pedro.

He insisted that statistically, Morocco had the upper hand against South Africa, disregarding the fact that statistics pale in comparison to match outcomes.

In football, only results matter, not possession percentages or accurate passes.

However, what caught attention in Regragui’s remarks was his insistence on living the Qatar dream.

He did not hesitate to remind everyone of the Atlas Lions’ achievements in the Qatar World Cup, emphasizing the atmosphere and results experienced by the Moroccan national team in the tournament.

This indicates that Regragui has yet to wake up from the World Cup dream, despite the setback at the AFCON.

While it’s true that the Moroccan national team achieved a historic and unprecedented feat in Qatar by reaching the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in its history, Moroccan fans are not content to dwell on the past.

They thirst for titles and aim to break the AFCON curse. Therefore, it’s imperative to awaken Walid from the AFCON dream because the past is behind us, and the future holds greater challenges.
