Njabulo Blom, the South African international midfielder for St. Louis City SC, disclosed the challenges that impeded his stellar progress in Major League Soccer (MLS) after an impressive debut season with the club.

Addressing the media in a recent press conference, Blom shed light on the hurdles he faced during the past year, citing injuries and a bout with COVID-19 as significant factors that momentarily hampered his development.

“Last year, I had a lot of injuries, and obviously, I had COVID, which stopped my progress a little bit. And I think everything is going well so far.

I can’t wait to start the season,” remarked Blom, reflecting on his journey.

Despite the setbacks, the 24-year-old midfielder showcased exceptional prowess during his first season in MLS, attaining the distinction of becoming the first South African player with the most wins.

Blom became an integral part of the team, contributing to 30 appearances for St. Louis City SC in his debut season.

Blom’s impact extended beyond personal achievements, propelling St. Louis City SC to break records as the MLS expansion club with the most wins in its inaugural season.

Additionally, his instrumental role led the team to qualify for the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup after clinching victory in the Western Conference.

As the club prepares for upcoming competitions, with a return to action against Houston Dynamo on February 21 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the commencement of the MLS season on February 25 against Real Salt Lake, Blom, now free from injuries, is eager to deliver his best on the pitch.

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder aims to contribute significantly to St. Louis City SC’s continued success in the upcoming season.
