Mahmoud Ashour, a referee, has affirmed his pride in the African Union’s trust in Egyptian referees, especially following their success in officiating the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
In a statement to the “Molab On Time” program presented by the media figure Ahmed Shobier on the ON Time Sports channel, Ashour stated that it is the African Union that nominates African referees for the World Cup, and the confidence in Egyptian referees bodes well.
The Egyptian Football Association’s board of directors, led by Jamal Alami, honored the Egyptian referees who officiated matches in the 2023 African Cup of Nations hosted by Ivory Coast. Seven Egyptian referees participated in managing matches in the continental tournament.
They are Amin Omar, Mohamed Adel, and Mohamed Marouf (field referees), Mahmoud Abu El Ragal and Ahmed Hossam Taha (assistants), and Mahmoud Ashour and Mahmoud El Banna (VAR).
