Antoine Griezmann makes Atletico de Madrid allegiance clear before Barcelona clash

Antoine Griezmann has reaffirmed his lasting connection with Atletico de Madrid after appearing in the United States wearing the Spanish club’s red-and-white shirt.

The France forward was pictured alongside his youngest son after Orlando City’s final match of the Major League Soccer regular season, with both wearing Atletico shirts. The appearance came only hours before Atletico de Madrid were due to face Barcelona in La Liga on Sunday, 08 November 2026.

Griezmann spent several years at Atletico and became the club’s all-time leading scorer, with 211 goals in all competitions. His choice of clothing offered another indication of his continued attachment to the side where he established himself as one of the club’s most important players.

He first joined Atletico de Madrid from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2014. He remained there until the summer of 2019, when Barcelona signed him for 120m euros.

The Frenchman spent two seasons with Barcelona, making 102 official appearances and scoring 35 goals. His time at the Catalan club also brought silverware, as he helped them win the Copa del Rey in the 2020-21 season.

Griezmann returned to Atletico on loan in September 2021 before making the move permanent in the summer of 2023. He stayed with the Madrid club until leaving for the United States in the summer of 2026.

The 2018 World Cup winner has made an impressive start to life with Orlando City. He contributed to the club’s qualification for the play-off rounds, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists in 18 matches.

His return to Atletico’s colours came as the club prepared to meet Barcelona in a significant La Liga fixture, with Griezmann’s long association with Atletico once again in focus.
