Walid Al-Farraj says four clubs drive the Roshn Saudi League

Saudi broadcaster Walid Al-Farraj has sparked debate by arguing that the Roshn Saudi League is effectively built around four clubs, with the other teams simply completing the competition.

Speaking on Rotana Sport with Walid on the Rotana Khalijia channel, Al-Farraj was asked by a viewer why there was little discussion of clubs outside the leading quartet.

“The stands are empty. There are only these four clubs,” he said. “I respect and appreciate every club, but do you believe the 18 teams competing in the league have the same influence?”

He added: “There are only four clubs in the country that represent the solid base for following, attendance, marketing and money. The rest complete the league.

“Proving your presence is not about raising your voice, but about being present inside the stadium.”

Al-Farraj then presented the highest attendance figures recorded so far this season in the Roshn Saudi League.

Al Hilal lead the list with 107,688 spectators, followed by Al-Ittihad with 103,215.

Al-Nassr are third on 101,054, while Al-Qadsiah have attracted 62,530.

Al-Fateh are next with 38,819, narrowly ahead of Al-Ahli, who have recorded 38,779.
