The Egyptian Football Association has ended Hossam Hassan’s time as manager of the national team and appointed Ali Maher as his successor.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the association’s board on Saturday to discuss recent developments surrounding the team.
In an official statement, the Egyptian Football Association said it had thanked Hassan and his technical and administrative staff for their work, in accordance with the terms of their contracts.
Maher has been placed in charge of the senior national team for the next stage and has already presented his plans for the composition of his coaching staff.
The association said it appreciated Hassan’s efforts during his period responsible for the national team and wished him continued success in his professional career.
It added that the change followed a review of the circumstances and events of recent weeks, as well as their consequences and what it described as a negative effect on the team’s positive image and stability.
The board meeting began on Saturday morning and was still in progress when the statement was issued.
Egypt are scheduled to face Malawi in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on 13 November 2026.
The Egyptian Football Association said the national team’s interests remained its highest priority. It also called on Egyptian football supporters and all those who support the team to stand behind it during the important period ahead.
The association said that backing the team would help its progress towards meeting the ambitions of its supporters.
