Mokwena: Pyramids will prepare for Al Ahly just as they did for Interior

Pyramids manager Rolani Mokwena says the club’s upcoming meeting with Al Ahly is significant for the entire team, rather than an occasion centred solely on him.

Pyramids booked their place in the last 16 of the Egypt Cup with a 2-0 victory over Interior in the round of 32. Mokwena said the preparation process for Al Ahly would follow the same approach used before that match.

“We will have some time to rest before returning to training in preparation for the match against Al Ahly,” Mokwena told On Sport.

“The game against Al Ahly is important for the whole team, not just Rolani Mokwena.”

The South African added that his focus and level of preparation remained consistent from one match to the next.

“I work very hard in every game, and we first had to prepare properly for the match against Interior,” he said.

Mokwena explained that Pyramids had carried out a detailed review of their opponents before selecting the team for the Egypt Cup tie.

“We prepared for the match, received video footage of the opponents and analysed it,” he said. “We also studied every player in the Interior team so that we could choose the appropriate line-up.”

He added: “We will do the same again before our next match against Al Ahly.”

Pyramids await last-16 opponents

Pyramids will face Bank Al Ahly in the last 16 of the Egypt Cup. Bank Al Ahly secured its place in that round by beating Bor Fouad 4-1.

Pyramids entered this season’s competition as the holders after winning the 2025-2026 Egypt Cup. They defeated ZED 2-1 in the final, which was played at Cairo International Stadium.

The victory over Interior extended Pyramids’ involvement in the defence of their title, while Mokwena’s comments underlined that the same preparation methods would be applied ahead of the team’s next fixture.
