Saudi newspaper Okaz says the process of selecting a new investor for Al-Ittihad remains ongoing, with the transfer of ownership potentially extending until the end of 2027.
The timetable will depend on the outcome of financial and administrative assessments of the parties seeking to take control of the Roshn Saudi League club, according to a source close to Al-Ittihad’s management.
The ownership file has entered an advanced review phase, with authorities examining the prospective investors’ financial strength, funding sources and existing financial obligations. Their ability to own and run the club, while meeting its requirements in the short and medium term, is also being assessed.
The review covers applications from both domestic and foreign investors under the conditions and regulations set by the owning authority. Foreign investment requires a local partner to be included in the ownership structure, in line with the approved regulatory framework.
Domestic investors, by contrast, can apply to acquire the club independently, with the potential to purchase up to 70% of its shares. They must still satisfy the required standards for financial capability and administrative expertise, ensuring they can manage Al-Ittihad and meet its financial and operational commitments.
Negotiations with the relevant parties are continuing, and the submitted applications have progressed to a detailed examination of their financial and administrative information, followed by a final evaluation. The next stage will involve completing the executive procedures.
However, the identities of the investors have not been disclosed, and no final date has been set for completing the transaction.
The source said the takeover process had moved forward since negotiations began at the end of last season, leaving Al-Ittihad closer to identifying its new owner. The change in ownership remains dependent on the completion of the assessments and formal approval of their results.
That process could push the final decision towards the end of 2027, despite the advanced stage reached by the applications as of 20 November 2026.
