Felix Nmecha brace fires Dortmund to victory over Elversberg

Borussia Dortmund strengthened their Bundesliga title challenge with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over SV Elversberg at Signal Iduna Park.

Felix Nmecha was the standout performer, scoring twice in the second half to secure maximum points for Niko Kovac’s side, who remain level on points with league leaders Bayern Munich after nine matches.

Dortmund dominated possession during the opening period but struggled to break down Elversberg’s organised defence. Fabio Silva came close to scoring with a long-range effort before further opportunities for the Portuguese forward and Nmecha went begging.

The visitors also threatened, with Francis Onyeka narrowly missing the target before the interval.

Dortmund eventually broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Silva set up Nmecha, who fired a low effort into the bottom corner.

The German midfielder doubled the advantage in the 71st minute, unleashing a powerful strike from distance beyond goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof.

Elversberg reduced the deficit through Noel Futkeu in the 81st minute, with the forward producing an acrobatic finish from Florian Le Joncour’s cross.

Dortmund survived late pressure to claim victory and maintain their unbeaten league record.
