Zamalek board member Ahmed Soliman says he hopes Pyramids defeat Al Ahly when the two sides meet in the Egyptian Premier League this season.
Pyramids are scheduled to host Al Ahly in the ninth round of the competition on 23 November.
Speaking to MBC Masr, Soliman said the result of matches between the leading clubs could have a significant impact on the title race.
“When Al Ahly and Zamalek face each other, the result benefits Pyramids, and the same applies to matches between Al Ahly and Pyramids, and between Zamalek and Pyramids,” he said.
“I want Pyramids to beat Al Ahly. Al Ahly will remain Zamalek’s rival until the final day.”
Pyramids lead the Egyptian Premier League with a perfect record of 24 points from eight matches. Al Ahly are second on 20 points, while Zamalek sit third with 19.
Soliman also highlighted the role played by Zamalek’s supporters during the decisive stage of last season, saying their influence extended beyond the stands.
“Zamalek fans were influential in helping the team collect many points in the final phase last season,” he added. “Their role was like that of the coach in directing the players.”
He also made clear that his support in the title race would depend on Al Ahly’s position as Pyramids’ main challenger.
“I will support Pyramids to win the league title if they compete with Al Ahly,” Soliman said. “Al Ahly are Zamalek’s rival, and whenever they win, their figures move further away from Zamalek.”
