Tour du Faso 2026: riders and team directors receive disciplinary sanctions

The commissaires’ panel at the Tour du Faso 2026 has issued a series of disciplinary penalties for offences committed during the race, involving riders, team directors and a journalist.

Benin riders Ezer Mensah, wearing race number 63, and Maurice C. Charbel Gandaho, number 65, were each fined 35 800 FCFA and deducted two points from the UCI ranking.

The penalties followed offences involving taking advantage of a vehicle’s slipstream or being towed behind a vehicle during a stage race.

Four team directors were also fined 71 600 FCFA each for failing to follow the commissaires’ instructions.

They were Abdelbasat Hanachi of the Equipe nationale d’Algerie, Thabiso Rengane of Tshenolo Pro Cycling Team, R. Jeremie Ouedraogo of the Equipe nationale du Burkina Faso and Jacques Lepere of Flanders.

Niger rider Ibrahim Sani Boureima, who wore number 102, was sanctioned for physically assaulting another rider. He was fined 71 600 FCFA and lost 15 points in the UCI ranking.

The panel also issued a warning to a journalist, described in the statement as another licensed person, for breaching regulations concerning travelling in the opposite direction during the race.

The commissaires additionally set out the feeding arrangements for the ninth stage. Riders will be allowed to take refreshments from kilometre 10, with feeding ending five kilometres before the finish.
