CSKA Moscow eye move to sign Morocco striker Youssef En-Nesyri in January
Moroccan international Youssef En-Nesyri has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Russian side CSKA Moscow ahead of the January 2027 transfer window, putting his future at Saudi club Al-Ittihad under scrutiny.
According to reports from Ysscores and Al Mountakhab, CSKA Moscow are considering a move for the 29-year-old as they look to strengthen their attacking options for the second half of the season.
However, the reported interest has yet to develop into an official offer or advanced negotiations between the two clubs. Neither Al-Ittihad nor CSKA Moscow has announced a formal move for the striker.
Financial factors could also complicate a potential deal, with En-Nesyri’s annual salary and market value reportedly presenting significant obstacles for the Russian club.
En-Nesyri improves after difficult start at Al-Ittihad
En-Nesyri’s initial spell at Al-Ittihad did not meet expectations, with the Moroccan struggling to deliver the attacking contribution anticipated following his arrival.
His performances attracted criticism from sections of the club’s supporters, while his departure was reportedly considered ahead of the current season.
Al-Ittihad were also reportedly open to selling the forward during the previous summer transfer window. However, the absence of a suitable offer prevented a move, giving him another opportunity to establish himself at the club.
The striker has since improved his performances, scoring eight goals and providing two assists in 16 appearances across competitions this season, according to statistics published by Winwin.
His improved form has strengthened his position in the team’s attacking setup and made him an important option for the Saudi club in domestic and continental competitions.
Al-Ittihad’s attacking options could influence decision
Another factor that could shape En-Nesyri’s future is Al-Ittihad’s current attacking structure under German coach Jens Wissing.
The coach has rotated between the Moroccan and Nigerian striker George Ilenikhena in the centre-forward position this season.
Should Al-Ittihad consider allowing En-Nesyri to leave in January, the club would need to decide whether to recruit another foreign striker or rely on its existing attacking options.
Finding a suitable replacement midway through the campaign could prove difficult, particularly given the financial considerations involved in signing another foreign player.
The club could instead postpone plans to recruit a new foreign forward until the summer transfer window.
Consequently, Al-Ittihad’s decision could depend on both the financial value of any potential offer from CSKA Moscow and its ability to maintain sufficient attacking depth for the remainder of the season.
Potential return to European football
A move to CSKA Moscow would offer En-Nesyri another opportunity to continue his career in European football.
The Moroccan previously played in Spain with Sevilla and Leganés, as well as in Turkey with Fenerbahce, gaining experience in different European competitions.
His next move could also have implications for his international ambitions with Morocco, as he looks to maintain his place among the national team’s attacking options.
