The Spanish Football Federation has postponed the draw for the second round of the Copa del Rey until 23 November.
The draw will take place at 13:00, having originally been scheduled for 16 November. The change follows a reshuffle of the domestic cup calendar after several matches in the Copa del Rey and the Copa de la Reina Iberdrola were postponed.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the federation is now working to rearrange the affected fixtures and identify new dates for the postponed matches. Some of those games are expected to be played in the coming weeks.
The decision to delay the second-round draw is intended to allow all the affected ties from the earlier stages to be completed. This will ensure the federation has a definitive list of the clubs taking part before the draw is held.
As a result, the qualifiers will have to wait an additional week to discover their opponents. The second round will be played over a single match, with no home-and-away tie.
The changes also affect the women’s Copa de la Reina Iberdrola. Its last-16 draw has been moved to 26 November and will begin at 16:30.
Cup football will resume next week, when the matches that were previously postponed are scheduled to be played.
