Al-Ittihad divided over possible move for Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour

An internal split has emerged at Al-Ittihad over whether to pursue a deal for Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour, with no decision yet made on the Egypt international’s potential move to the Roshn Saudi League.

A source inside Al-Ittihad told Kooora that the club’s position on Ashour remains unsettled. One faction is in favour of signing the midfielder, while another has reservations about completing the transfer.

Those supporting the move believe Ashour could strengthen Al-Ittihad’s midfield, particularly following Richard Rios’ injury. However, the club will not make an official approach until head coach Jens Vissing has provided his technical assessment.

Vissing is expected to determine whether Al-Ittihad require Ashour’s services and whether the player would fit into the team’s plans. His view will therefore play a key role in deciding whether the Saudi club proceeds with the proposed transfer.

Those opposed to the deal have raised concerns over what they consider to be questions about Ashour’s lifestyle and level of readiness. They have also pointed to the recent controversies associated with the player, with doubts over whether he would deliver the expected impact at Al-Ittihad.

The uncertainty could also create difficulties for Al Ahly. The Egyptian club may face a significant decline in Ashour’s market value, which could make it harder to sell him for an appropriate fee if it decides to part company with the midfielder.

For now, the player’s future remains unresolved, with Al-Ittihad yet to reach a unified position and no formal move planned before the club receives Vissing’s assessment.
