Atletico Madrid host Barcelona in Liga summit clash with history at stake

Atletico Madrid welcome LaLiga leaders FC Barcelona to Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday, 8 November 2026, with Diego Simeone’s side aiming to move top of the table and set a new managerial record in the Spanish top flight.

Kick-off is at 20:00 GMT in Madrid. The match will be shown on Disney and DAZN in France; Proximus Pickx and Play Sports 1 / Play Sports in Belgium; Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Ultra HD in the United Kingdom and Ireland; Sky Sport Premier League, Sky Go / WOW in Germany and Austria; DAZN in Spain and Italy; Viaplay Netherlands in the Netherlands; Canal+ / Canal+ Extra 1 in Poland; DAZN Portugal in Portugal; SuperSport in sub-Saharan Africa; and beIN Sports in the Maghreb and Middle East.

A chance to make history

Atletico are second, two points behind Barcelona, and have won their past seven home league matches. Their momentum was checked by a defeat by Bayern Munich in midweek, but attention has quickly turned back to the battle for the domestic title.

Victory would take Atletico above Barcelona and give them first place. It would also allow Simeone to become the first manager to reach 345 victories in Spain’s top division.

Barcelona arrive in the capital after an emphatic 6-1 win against Alaves. That result took their tally to 46 goals after 11 league matches, the second-highest figure in LaLiga history at this stage. Only Athletic Bilbao, with 49 goals in 1930/31, had scored more.

Hansi Flick’s team are also seeking a sixth successive away victory in LaLiga. Barcelona have achieved that run only twice before, in 2010/11 and 2012/13.

The visitors are meanwhile seeking another landmark in the fixture. A win would be their fifth consecutive away success against Atletico Madrid, a feat previously managed only by Athletic Bilbao in 1955 and Real Madrid in 2013.

Recent meetings

The latest encounters between the clubs have produced some striking results:

– 14 April 2026, UEFA Champions League: Atletico Madrid 1-2 Barcelona – 8 April 2026, UEFA Champions League: Barcelona 0-2 Atletico Madrid – 2 April 2026, LaLiga: Atletico Madrid 1-2 Barcelona – 3 March 2026, Copa del Rey: Barcelona 3-0 Atletico Madrid – 12 February 2026, Copa del Rey: Atletico Madrid 4-0 Barcelona

This 12th-round contest is expected to be closely fought, with both teams affected by notable absences. Atletico have the benefit of greater freshness and an outstanding home record, while Barcelona’s attacking form away from home presents a sustained threat.

The prediction is for a 2-2 draw. Listed odds are 3.75 for an Atletico Madrid win, 4.33 for a draw and 1.80 for a Barcelona victory.
