Tenerife’s Jesus de Miguel remembered as family holds funeral in Navahermosa

The family of former Tenerife player Jesus de Miguel has thanked the football community for its messages of support following his death at the age of 30.

A statement was read to the media on Thursday by the player’s agent, Manuel Hernandez, at a funeral home in Navahermosa, Toledo, the family’s home town. A funeral mass for Jesus de Miguel is being held there today.

“During these difficult times, we would like to sincerely thank everyone for the kind words and expressions of affection we have received following Jesus’ death,” the family said, according to Mundo Deportivo.

“We do not have enough words to thank you for every message, every call and every gesture of affection we have received.

“Thank you to everyone who remembered him, his team-mates, friends and supporters, and all the clubs that wanted to offer their condolences and share this painful moment with us.”

Jesus de Miguel died on Tuesday after a heavy collision with the goalkeeper of Andorra.

The family said the affection shown for the player, and the impact he had on so many people’s lives, would remain with them.

“To feel this deep love for Jesus and to see the mark he left on the lives of so many people is something that will remain engraved in our memories,” the statement continued.

“We therefore respectfully ask that our privacy, and the privacy of everyone accompanying us at this time, be respected.”

The family added that it needed time to grieve “in peace and tranquillity”, while acknowledging the support offered by fans, team-mates, friends and clubs.

“We understand the love, concern and support caused by his loss, and we are deeply grateful,” it said.

“Thank you for your love for him, for remembering him and for standing by us.”

The funeral service is taking place at the Church of San Miguel Arcangel in Navahermosa.

The Segunda Division fixtures listed alongside the statement include Granada against Tenerife on 07 November 2026, and Andorra against Mallorca on 08 November 2026.
