Two local coaches emerge as candidates to replace Egypt coach Hossam Hassan
Hossam El Badry and Ali Maher have emerged as potential candidates to take over as head coach of the Egyptian national team should the Egyptian Football Association decide to part ways with current manager Hossam Hassan.
The two Egyptian tacticians have reportedly entered the conversation surrounding the future of the Pharaohs’ technical bench, with El Badry believed to be among the leading options if the federation eventually decides to appoint a new coach.
El Badry, who previously managed both Al Ahly and the Egyptian national team, remains an experienced figure in Egyptian football. His familiarity with the country’s football structure and previous involvement with the national side could make him a strong option should the position become vacant.
The former Al Ahly manager has considerable experience in the domestic game and has also worked at international level, having previously guided Egypt’s senior national team.
Ali Maher is another name being considered as a possible successor to Hassan. The former Al Ahly coach has also managed several Egyptian clubs and is understood to be among the local candidates who could be considered if the federation opts for a change.
The preference for a domestic appointment is reportedly linked to the current direction of relying on a national coach to lead the Pharaohs. A decision to bring in a foreign technical director, meanwhile, would require approval from the state.
Despite the growing speculation surrounding the coaching position, no formal discussions have taken place within the Egyptian Football Association regarding the appointment of a replacement.
Both El Badry and Maher therefore remain potential candidates rather than confirmed choices, with the federation yet to make any official move concerning the future of the national team’s technical leadership.
For now, Hossam Hassan remains in charge of the Pharaohs, and any decision regarding his position will depend on the Egyptian Football Association’s assessment of the team’s technical direction in the coming period.
