Jesus Owono breaks silence after Jesus de Miguel tragic death

FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono has spoken publicly for the first time following the tragic death of Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel after the pair were involved in a frightening collision during a Spanish Segunda División encounter on November 2.

The 30-year-old Tenerife striker suffered serious injuries following the incident and was rushed to hospital in critical condition. However, despite efforts to save his life, he tragically passed away the following morning, sending shockwaves across Spanish football.

Owono, who was directly involved in the collision, has now broken his silence through an emotional statement published by FC Andorra on November 4, admitting that he is struggling to process the tragedy.

“These are being the most difficult days of my life. It’s hard for me to find the words and I find it very difficult to assimilate anything that has happened.

“I feel enormous pain for the loss of Jesus. I think of him, his family and all the people who loved him.

“I know that there will be many issues to address, I will face whatever comes with all due respect. But right now, honestly, I can’t think of anything other than Jesus and the pain we are experiencing. Rest in peace, Jesus,” Owono said.

The incident occurred during the league meeting between FC Andorra and Tenerife, with the match eventually abandoned at 2-2 following the tragic events.

Owono was shown a red card after the collision, while the circumstances surrounding the incident have since attracted considerable attention. The goalkeeper has also been subjected to online abuse, prompting FC Andorra to call for sensitivity, compassion and respect towards everyone affected by the tragedy.

The club’s decision to release Owono’s statement provided an opportunity for the goalkeeper to express his grief and pay tribute to De Miguel, while acknowledging the difficult period he and those close to the deceased are experiencing.

Meanwhile, UEFA has announced that a minute of silence will be observed before all European competition matches this week in honour of De Miguel.

The football community continues to mourn the loss of the Tenerife forward, with tributes pouring in following his untimely death.
