Fadlu Davids linked with Maghreb Fès coaching job after Rui Almeida exit

Former Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids has reportedly emerged as a candidate for the vacant managerial position at Moroccan champions Maghreb AS de Fès (MAS Fès).

The South African tactician has been without a club since leaving Moroccan giants Raja Athletic Club in June, but could soon return to the dugout following developments at MAS Fès.

The Botola Pro League champions recently parted ways with Portuguese coach Rui Almeida after a disappointing start to their title defence, leaving the club searching for a new manager.

Almeida was appointed after the dismissal of former AmaZulu coach Franco Pablo Martín, who had guided MAS Fès to the league title. However, the Portuguese coach struggled to maintain the club’s momentum, prompting another change in the technical area.

Davids is now reportedly among the coaches being considered to take over at the Moroccan outfit.

The 45-year-old was previously linked with a move to Tanzanian giants Young Africans, who were searching for a replacement for Manqoba Mngqithi.

However, Young Africans are understood to have opted for former TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic, leaving Davids without an immediate return to management.

MAS Fès confirmed their decision to part ways with Almeida in an official statement, describing the separation as a mutual agreement.

“MAS Fès announces that it has reached an agreement to mutually terminate the contract of Portuguese coach Rui Almeida,” the club said.

“The club extends its sincere thanks to Mr. Rui Almeida for his efforts during his time as head coach and wishes him every success in his future career.”

A potential appointment would present Davids with an opportunity to continue his coaching career in Morocco, where he previously worked with Raja Athletic Club.

He could also reunite with two South African players at MAS Fès, with forward Tshegofatso Mabasa and winger Devin Titus currently on the club’s books.

It remains to be seen whether the former Maritzburg United and Orlando Pirates coach will be selected to lead the Moroccan champions as they seek to revive their campaign.
