Douvikas treble fires Como to record Champions League victory and top scorer’s spot

Anastasios Douvikas scored a hat-trick as Como overwhelmed Lens 9-1 on Wednesday to claim the biggest win in Champions League history and move the Greek striker to the top of the competition’s scoring charts.

Douvikas struck in the seventh, 32nd and 57th minutes during the fourth round of the league phase, completing a remarkable individual performance at Bollaert.

His three goals helped Como secure a nine-goal victory over Lens, while also taking his total in this season’s Champions League to six.

That moved the Como forward clear at the summit of the scoring standings and changed the picture at the top after Erling Haaland appeared to have taken the lead earlier in the day.

The Manchester City striker began his side’s match against German club Leipzig with four goals in the competition. He believed he had moved to the top after scoring the decisive goal in a 3-2 victory for his team.

However, Douvikas’ treble took him beyond Haaland, who now sits second with five goals after four rounds.

Nicolo Tresoldi of Club Brugge also has five goals. He scored for the Belgian side against Dutch club PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday to join Haaland in second place.

Seven other players are level in third position, with four goals apiece. That group includes Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe, who occupy the first and second positions respectively in this year’s Ballon d’Or race.

Barcelona forward Raphinha, who has been in outstanding form recently, is also among the players with four goals.
