Rafael Nadal is set to move into a formal role at Real Madrid after the Spanish club proposed appointing him to its board of directors.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion’s nomination will be presented to members at a general assembly on 21 November. Approval is expected, which would make Nadal an official member of the board.
Real Madrid announced the proposal in an official statement, published by Marca, ahead of the meeting.
It said: “Proposal from the board of directors for approval by the extraordinary general assembly, appointing Mr Rafael Nadal Parera as a member of the board of directors of Real Madrid, in accordance with Article 46 of the statutes.”
The club added: “In this regard, the board unanimously agreed to submit the following proposal to the extraordinary general assembly for approval: to ratify the appointment of Mr Rafael Nadal Parera as a member of the board of directors of Real Madrid, in accordance with Article 46 of the statutes.”
The ordinary general assembly is scheduled to begin at 09:00 on 21 November at the first sitting, with a second sitting planned for 10:00.
Its agenda includes the president’s report, along with the review and possible approval of the financial settlement, annual report, balance sheet and profit-and-loss accounts for the 2025/26 financial year. The consolidated accounts covering the club’s subsidiary companies will also be considered.
Members will also discuss and, if appropriate, approve the consolidated income and expenditure budget and activities plan for the 2026/27 financial year. Proposed membership fees for the 2027/28 season will be put forward, followed by questions and comments.
The extraordinary general assembly will take place immediately afterwards and will have a single item on its agenda: Nadal’s appointment to the board.
Real Madrid described Nadal as one of the greatest sporting legends in history and highlighted his achievements and personal qualities as reasons for the proposal.
Nadal, a lifelong Real Madrid supporter, thanked president Florentino Perez and the board on his social media accounts and confirmed that he had accepted the offer.
“I would like to thank president Florentino Perez and the board of directors for proposing that I join the board of Real Madrid,” Nadal said. “I have accepted this proposal with great enthusiasm, and I am eager to learn and contribute as much as I can.”
