Barcelona prepare long-term deal to keep Ghana defender Hafiz Gariba until 2031

Barcelona are preparing a long-term contract offer for Ghanaian centre-back Hafiz Gariba as they look to secure the 19-year-old’s future at the club until 2031.

According to Footy-Africa, Barcelona officials are expected to begin discussions with the defender’s representatives soon. Gariba is currently under contract until 2027 but has made a strong impression through his performances for Barca Atletic.

The proposed agreement is not expected to focus solely on extending the length of his contract. Gariba’s representatives also want greater clarity over his route into the first team and assurances about his prospects of playing for the senior side.

The defender took part in Barcelona’s pre-season preparations with the first-team squad, but an injury interrupted his progress and delayed his opportunity to impress the coaching staff. Since returning to fitness, he has resumed playing and continued his development with the reserve team.

Gariba also came close to being included in the squad for the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. However, he was left out because of UEFA registration rules.

By considering a contract running until 2031, Barcelona are signalling their belief in Gariba’s potential and their desire to retain one of their promising young African players. His current market value is estimated at 50,000 euros by Transfermarkt.

Barcelona’s next fixture is against Atletico de Madrid in the 12th round of the Spanish championship.
