CAF snub Raja and Wydad as three Moroccan clubs earn African Team of the Year nominations
Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca and Wydad Casablanca have been left out of the nominations for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Men’s Club of the Year award.
The omission comes as CAF unveiled its list of clubs competing for the prestigious continental honour, with three Moroccan sides earning places among the nominees.
Olympique de Safi, AS FAR and RS Berkane will represent Morocco on the shortlist, leaving Raja and Wydad absent from the nominations.
Three Moroccan clubs make the shortlist
While Raja and Wydad were overlooked, Olympique de Safi, AS FAR and RS Berkane secured nominations for the African Club of the Year award.
The inclusion of the three clubs means Morocco will have significant representation in the continental awards, despite the absence of two of its most recognised football institutions.
Raja and Wydad miss out
The omission of Raja and Wydad represents a disappointment for the Casablanca rivals, who will not be competing for the award this year.
Their absence has also placed the spotlight on the achievements of Olympique de Safi, AS FAR and RS Berkane, who will carry Morocco’s hopes in the category.
