Patrick Maswanganyi’s Al Khaldiya came from behind to beat Al-Wahda FC 2-1 on Wednesday and record their first win in the AFC Asian Champions League.
The Bahrain-based side had taken just one point from their opening three Group A matches, but revived their hopes of reaching the knockout stages with a comeback victory away from home.
Al Khaldiya had also lost the reverse fixture 2-1 a week earlier. They fell behind again when Christian Benteke gave Al-Wahda the lead after 55 minutes.
Maswanganyi was introduced from the bench after 65 minutes, and Al Khaldiya levelled only two minutes later through Mohamed Al Romaihi.
The visitors completed the turnaround in the 72nd minute, with Saifeddine Bouhra scoring their second goal.
The result lifts Al Khaldiya to four points from four matches in Group A. Al-Wahda FC remain on nine points after suffering their first defeat of the campaign.
Al Khaldiya have two matches remaining in their attempt to qualify for the knockout stages. Their final fixtures are against Nasaf and Al Kuwait.
