Crystal Palace have failed in their appeal against the straight red card shown to Jean-Philippe Mateta during their Premier League match against Tottenham.
Mateta was sent off early in Saturday’s game after a serious foul on Micky van de Ven, with his challenge making contact with the Tottenham defender’s foot.
Crystal Palace appealed in an attempt to have the dismissal overturned, but an independent commission rejected the case.
The Football Association said: “An independent commission has rejected claims that Jean-Philippe Mateta was wrongfully sent off and that an excessive punishment was imposed on the player.”
The statement added: “The Crystal Palace striker was dismissed for committing serious foul play and, as a result, will serve a three-match suspension.”
Mateta will therefore miss Crystal Palace’s next three Premier League matches against Liverpool, Coventry City and Hull City.
The club are 18th in the Premier League with seven points from nine matches.
