CAF unveil nominees for Goalkeeper of the Year award

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the 10 nominees for the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year award at the 2026 CAF Awards, with Morocco’s Yassine Bounou and Cape Verde’s Vozinha among the prominent names on the shortlist.

Bounou, who has established himself as one of the finest goalkeepers in African football, will be aiming to claim the prestigious individual accolade for the third time after previously winning it in 2023 and 2025.

The Moroccan international’s latest nomination further highlights his consistency and impressive performances at club and international level, having remained a key figure for the Atlas Lions.

Vozinha has also earned recognition following his impressive contributions to Cape Verde’s historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The experienced goalkeeper played an important role in his country’s successful qualification campaign and will be hoping to secure the continental honour for the first time.

Senegal’s Édouard Mendy and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams are also among the notable names included in the 10-man shortlist.

Algeria’s Oussama Benbot, Ivory Coast’s Yahia Fofana and DR Congo’s Lionel Mpasi have also been rewarded with nominations following their performances for club and country.

Egypt has two representatives in El Mahdy Soliman and Mostafa Shobeir, while Morocco also has a second nominee in Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti, joining Bounou in the race for the award.

The shortlist features goalkeepers from nine African countries, underlining the depth of talent across the continent in one of football’s most demanding positions.

The winner will be announced at the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony, scheduled for Monday, December 7, in Lagos, Nigeria.
