Al Ahly have not received an offer from Al-Ittihad for midfielder Imam Ashour and there have been no negotiations over a possible move, according to a source at the Egyptian club.

A Saudi newspaper, Al Weeam, reported that Al-Ittihad were once again considering a move for the Al Ahly and Egypt midfielder during the upcoming winter transfer window.

However, an Al Ahly source told FilGoal.com: “We have not received any offers from Al-Ittihad to sign Imam Ashour, and there have been no verbal or official negotiations regarding this.”

The source added: “As there are no offers in the first place, there is no question of the club assessing whether it is prepared to let him leave or not.”

Ashour was previously linked with a move to Al-Ittihad during the summer transfer window. He subsequently extended his contract with Al Ahly until 2030.

The midfielder has not featured in Al Ahly’s last three matches, against Kitara, Modern Sport and El Mokawloon El Arab.

Al Ahly explained on Sunday that Ashour’s recent absence was for technical reasons only. The club said on its official website that he had been left out of the team for footballing reasons and was training normally without suffering from an injury.

That account contrasts with a separate claim from Imam Ashour’s personal trainer, who said the player had an injury preventing him from playing normally.

Ashour has made only four appearances for Al Ahly this season. He has not scored or provided an assist.
