Brian Brobbey signs new Sunderland contract until 2031 after impressive Premier League start
Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey has committed his long-term future to the club after signing a new contract that will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2031.
The Dutch international of Ghanaian descent has been rewarded for his contributions since arriving from Ajax in September 2025, with Sunderland securing his services as they continue to build a squad capable of competing in domestic and European competitions.
The 24-year-old has quickly become an important figure in the Black Cats’ attacking setup, using his physical strength, pace and goalscoring ability to make an impact in the Premier League.
His most outstanding performance came in September when he scored a remarkable hat-trick against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The achievement made Brobbey the first Sunderland player to register a Premier League hat-trick since former England international Jermain Defoe accomplished the feat in 2016.
His performances have also coincided with a significant period for the club, having helped Sunderland secure qualification for European competition.
Brobbey targets further growth at Sunderland
Following the announcement of his new deal, Brobbey expressed satisfaction with the confidence shown in him by the club and revealed his determination to continue developing as a player.
The former Ajax forward also highlighted the significance of representing Sunderland in the Premier League, describing the club’s qualification for European football as a particularly proud moment in his career.
“I’m really happy with the confidence the club has shown in me. Since I arrived, I’ve felt the ambition here, and I want to keep growing and improving as a player.
“Representing Sunderland in the Premier League is both an honour and a privilege. Having played my part in helping this club qualify for European competition is something I’m incredibly proud of. It’s an achievement that will always be part of the club’s history.
“I know I still can be a better version of myself, and that’s what motivates me every day. I want to score goals, help the team and give our fans something to be proud of.”
Brobbey’s commitment represents a boost for Sunderland as they seek to maintain their progress and establish themselves among the clubs competing at the highest level.
Ghisolfi backs Dutch striker to reach greater heights
Sunderland director of football Florent Ghisolfi welcomed the agreement, describing it as a reflection of the shared ambition between the club and the player.
He believes Brobbey still has considerable room for improvement and has assured the striker of the club’s commitment to supporting his development.
“We are delighted that Brian has committed his future to Sunderland. This agreement reflects a shared belief in what we can achieve together and a mutual commitment to keep progressing.
“Brian has important qualities, and we believe there is much more to come from him. Our responsibility is to support his development and challenge him every day, so he can fulfil his potential and help the team succeed.
“We want to build a team that grows together, with players who embrace the demands of this Club and take pride in representing Sunderland. Brian has an important part to play in that journey, and we look forward to continuing our work together.”
Brobbey’s numbers since joining from Ajax
Since completing his move from Ajax on September 1, 2025, Brobbey has made 40 appearances across all competitions for Sunderland, scoring 10 goals.
His new contract until 2031 provides continuity for the club as they look to strengthen their attacking options and build on their recent progress.
With his best years potentially still ahead of him, Sunderland will be hoping the Dutchman can deliver even greater returns as they pursue their ambitions in the Premier League and European football.
