Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel suffers neurological deterioration after on-field collapse
Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel’s condition has deteriorated neurologically after he lost consciousness during a Segunda Division match against Andorra.
The 31-year-old was taken to hospital after a heavy collision with Andorra goalkeeper Ouno and is being treated in the intensive care unit at Nuestra Senora de Candelaria University Hospital.
Tenerife announced the latest update in the early hours of Tuesday. The club said: “Jesus de Miguel’s health has deteriorated from a neurological point of view. More information will be released in the coming hours.”
The club had previously said the forward was in a stable but serious condition, with medical staff monitoring him in intensive care.
The incident happened in added time at the end of the second half, with the score level at 2-2. De Miguel chased an aerial ball close to the halfway line before Ouno came out strongly in an attempt to reach it.
The two players collided and the Tenerife striker fell to the ground unconscious. Players from both teams immediately called for medical assistance, while Ouno was shown a red card.
De Miguel was carried from the pitch on a stretcher before being taken by ambulance to La Candelaria hospital.
Reports said he suffered a cardiac arrest after the collision. His condition stabilised while he was being transported, although he remained unconscious when he arrived at hospital.
Referee Perez Hernandez informed the captains and managers of both teams that the match had been suspended. Players were left in shock, and several of De Miguel’s team-mates later went to the hospital to check on him.
The fixture information associated with the report lists Tenerife’s involvement in the Copa del Rey against CD Badajoz on 04 November 2026. Tenerife are also listed to face Mallorca in Segunda Division on 08 November 2026.
