Al Ahly explain Emam Ashour omission as Hussein Ammouta makes fresh squad call

Al Ahly have confirmed that Emam Ashour’s continued absence from the team is down to technical reasons, with the midfielder training normally and not carrying an injury.

Ashour was left out of Hussein Ammouta’s squad for Monday’s match against Al Mokawloon Al Arab at Cairo International Stadium in the second round of the group stage of the Egypt Capital Cup.

The 27-year-old’s omission comes as questions continue to emerge over his position at the club and the reason he has not featured in recent matches. Al Ahly used their official social media accounts to clarify that Ashour is physically fit and taking part in full team training.

A club statement said the player’s exclusion was solely the result of the coach’s technical decisions.

Ashour’s absence from Monday’s squad means he has now been left out for three consecutive matches. He was not selected for Al Ahly’s games against Uganda’s Kitara in the CAF Confederation Cup or Modern Sport in the Egyptian Premier League before being omitted again for the meeting with Al Mokawloon Al Arab.

The midfielder has made only four appearances for Al Ahly this season, without scoring a goal or registering an assist.

Ammouta’s squad for the Egypt Capital Cup match includes the returning Mohamed Hany, Yasser Ibrahim and Ahmed Reda. However, several established players have been left out, including Ahmed Mostafa Zizo, Mohamed El Shenawy, Hussein El Shahat and Marwan عطية, alongside Ashour.

Al Ahly will be seeking a second win in the competition and aiming to maintain their position at the top of Group C. They began their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Petrojet, a result that gave them their first three points.

The strong opening has provided Al Ahly with an opportunity to build momentum, although the team will face Al Mokawloon Al Arab without several key players.

The match will also give Ammouta the chance to assess members of his squad who have had limited playing time in recent weeks. The coach’s selection reflects the continued absence of a number of regulars, while also bringing three players back into contention.

Ashour’s exclusion has nevertheless attracted particular attention because of his limited involvement so far this season. Al Ahly’s clarification removes concerns over his fitness, but confirms that his latest omission remains part of Ammouta’s sporting decisions.
