Racing Santander face €602 fine after fan throws lighter during Real Madrid defeat

Racing Santander could be fined up to €602 after a supporter threw a lighter from the stands during their 3-0 defeat by Real Madrid in La Liga.

The incident happened in the 78th minute after referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero reviewed a possible handball by Aurelien Tchouameni inside the penalty area using the video assistant referee (VAR) system. He ultimately decided not to award a penalty.

According to the referee’s report, the lighter landed close to the second assistant referee but did not hit him. The stadium’s public address system announced the incident, and the first stage of the protocol for objects thrown from the stands was activated.

The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee is expected to announce its decision on Wednesday.

The official report indicates that Article 117 of the regulations is likely to be applied. The article covers minor disruptions to the running of a match and allows for a fine of up to €602 to be imposed on the club responsible for such incidents.
