Barcelona have made it clear that Fermin Lopez is not available for transfer, despite Manchester United’s interest in signing the midfielder during the next winter window.
The Spanish club are unwilling to open negotiations over the 23-year-old, even if Manchester United decide to make a substantial offer to secure his services.
Italian journalist Matteo Moretto reported on Friday, via Radio MARCA, that Manchester United are closely monitoring both Fermin Lopez and Pablo Barrios. The Premier League club are looking for a midfielder with the qualities of the Barcelona and Atletico Madrid players and have already asked about their situations.
However, according to Spanish newspaper Sport, Manchester United have not made any formal approach. Their interest has so far been limited to enquiries about the players’ availability.
Barcelona’s response regarding Fermin has been described as unequivocal. The midfielder is regarded as one of the key components of head coach Hansi Flick’s plans, while his contract was extended at the start of this year until 2031.
Barcelona see Fermin as central to their plans
Fermin is reportedly very happy at Spotify Camp Nou and considers Barcelona to be the club of his life. He has no desire to pursue a move elsewhere, with his position matching that of the club’s board.
The La Masia graduate’s stance, and Barcelona’s refusal to consider his departure, are not expected to change in the near future.
Fermin’s market value is estimated at 110m euros by Transfermarkt. He has featured in every match this season apart from one, scoring five goals and providing four assists.
He remains highly valued by both Barcelona’s coaching staff and sporting department. The competition between Fermin and Dani Olmo for the playmaker role is also viewed as a significant benefit for the Catalan side.
No offer, regardless of its financial value, would persuade sporting director Deco to enter negotiations over Fermin’s transfer.
Manchester United are continuing to assess possible midfield reinforcements as they seek to improve their squad. Their interest in Fermin and Barrios comes as the club continues to struggle for consistency and searches for a way to correct its sporting direction.
For now, Barcelona’s position leaves the door firmly closed on any winter move for Fermin.
