Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has been linked to a legal dispute involving approximately $75,000 (around R1.25 million) over an alleged unpaid commission connected to his appointment at Iranian club Esteghlal.

As reported by Sunday Times, football agent Hamed Ghadiri has initiated legal proceedings against MT Sports Marketing and Management, a company operated by Mosimane’s wife, Moira Tlhagale, seeking payment for services he claims to have rendered during negotiations over the coach’s appointment.

Ghadiri alleges that in October 2024, the company authorised him to facilitate preliminary discussions with Esteghlal regarding the possible appointment of Mosimane and members of his technical team.

The agent claims his involvement helped advance negotiations between the Iranian club and the South African tactician, eventually leading to the preparation of a formal offer and the subsequent signing of a contract.

At the centre of the dispute is an alleged agreement concerning the sharing of commission from the coaching appointment.

According to Ghadiri, Esteghlal was expected to pay intermediaries a total commission of $100,000, with $75,000 allocated to him for his role in facilitating the negotiations.

However, the agent maintains that despite fulfilling his responsibilities and the agreement surrounding the commission, he has yet to receive the amount he believes is owed to him.

The disagreement has now escalated into a legal battle, with Ghadiri approaching the High Court of Johannesburg to seek the intervention of the court.

He is requesting an order compelling the disclosure of relevant documents and bank statements that could shed light on the financial transactions and establish what happened to the disputed commission.

The requested records are expected to help clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged payment arrangement and determine the parties’ respective financial obligations.

The case is being heard at the High Court of Johannesburg, with the dispute placing renewed attention on the business arrangements surrounding Mosimane’s coaching engagements.

Mosimane is one of Africa’s most recognisable football coaches, having enjoyed considerable success with Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian giants Al Ahly before taking up the challenge in Iranian football.

The allegations remain subject to the ongoing legal proceedings, and the court will have to determine the merits of Ghadiri’s claim.
