Bayern Munich have confirmed that Moroccan international Ismael Saibari has undergone successful ankle surgery following an injury sustained during Saturday’s 2-2 Bundesliga draw against Borussia Dortmund.

The 23-year-old forward was forced off during the Der Klassiker after suffering an injury to his right ankle, raising concerns about his availability for the coming weeks.

Following medical examinations, the German champions confirmed that Saibari had suffered a tear to the anterior tibiofibular ligament in his right ankle and had already undergone surgery.

“Saibari suffered a tear in the anterior tibiofibular ligament of his right ankle and has already undergone surgery. As for Gnabry, he has sustained a muscle injury to his left hamstring,” the club stated.

Bayern confirmed that Saibari’s operation was successful, although the club did not provide a specific timeframe for his return to action.

The latest setback represents a major concern for the Bavarian giants, who are already dealing with several injury problems involving key players, including Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala and Luis Díaz.

The situation has placed additional pressure on head coach Vincent Kompany, whose squad depth has been tested during a demanding period of the season.

Bayern’s difficulties were particularly evident during the second half of their encounter with Dortmund, when they had to deploy three different players in the left-back position.

Despite their growing injury concerns, Bayern are not expected to make fresh additions during the January transfer window, having already indicated that they do not intend to strengthen their squad.

The German champions must now turn their attention to their upcoming European assignment against Atlético Madrid next Tuesday, with Saibari and Gnabry expected to miss the encounter.

For Morocco, Saibari’s injury will also be a concern ahead of the upcoming international assignments, as the Atlas Lions await further clarity on his recovery and potential return to action.
