Barcelona monitor Morocco striker Yassir Zabiri after impressive run in La Liga
Moroccan striker Yasser Zabiri has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Barcelona following an impressive start to the season with Racing Santander in Spain.
The 21-year-old has caught the attention of Barcelona sporting director Deco after scoring eight goals in ten La Liga matches, according to Spanish publication Fichajes.
Zabiri is currently playing for Racing Santander on loan from French club Stade Rennais until June 2027. His market value is estimated at around €20 million.
His age, scoring record and ability to adapt to Spanish football are understood to be among the factors that have placed him on Barcelona’s radar as the Catalan giants consider options to strengthen their attack.
Zabiri continues to impress in Spain
The Moroccan forward most recently found the net against Espanyol, helping Racing Santander secure a 2-1 victory and end a run of matches without a win.
He also scored at Spotify Camp Nou during Racing’s 7-2 defeat to Barcelona, fulfilling one of his childhood dreams of playing and scoring at the stadium of the club he has supported since he was young.
Barcelona’s reported interest is said to extend beyond his performances on the pitch, with the financial aspects of a potential deal also forming part of the consideration.
Zabiri joined Stade Rennais from Famalicão for around €10 million, but his performances in Spain have reportedly pushed his market value to approximately €20 million.
Complicated transfer situation
However, Barcelona could face difficulties if they decide to pursue the Moroccan forward.
Racing Santander have Zabiri on loan until June 30, 2027, with no option to buy, while his contract with Rennes runs until 2029.
His release clause is reportedly worth more than €20 million, giving the French club control over his future and making an early departure during the current season difficult.
Zabiri has previously spoken publicly about his admiration for Barcelona, having followed the club during his childhood.
The striker also established himself on the international stage after finishing as the top scorer at the FIFA U20 World Cup, which Morocco won last year. His performances at the tournament helped attract interest from Stade Rennais, who subsequently signed him.
Barcelona could consider making a move in the summer of 2027 if Zabiri maintains his scoring form in Spain.
