Mozambique name squad for Ethiopia games

Mozambique coach Chiquinho Conde has named his squad for the upcoming double-header against Ethiopia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as the Mambas prepare for two crucial encounters during the November international break.

The Mozambican national team will host Ethiopia in their third Group J qualifying match on November 13 at the Estádio Nacional do Zimpeto before travelling to face the same opponents four days later.

The return fixture is scheduled for November 17 at the Bahir Dar International Stadium in Ethiopia, with both matches expected to play an important role in shaping the Group J standings.

Mozambique have made a promising start to their qualifying campaign, collecting four points from their opening two matches through a draw and a victory. The Mambas currently sit top of Group J, level on points with Senegal, and will be eager to maintain their position with positive results in both encounters.

Conde will be counting on a balanced squad featuring experienced campaigners and attacking talents to navigate the two fixtures and strengthen Mozambique’s hopes of securing a place at the 2027 AFCON.

Among the players selected are winger Geny Catamo, who is expected to provide attacking quality, alongside forwards Stanley Ratifo, Faizal Bangal and Witiness Quembo.

The squad also includes defenders Edmilson Dove and Bruno Langa, while Ricardo Guimarães, Manuel Kambala and Cândido Mathe are among the midfield options available to the coach.

Mozambique will be keen to take advantage of home support in the first meeting before travelling to Ethiopia for what could prove to be a decisive return fixture.

With qualification points at stake in both matches, Conde’s side will be aiming to maintain their early momentum and strengthen their position in the race for a place at the 2027 continental showpiece.
