AmaZulu striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya attracting overseas interest, says agent
Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s outstanding start to the 2026/27 season could lead to interest from clubs outside South Africa, according to his agent Mike Makaab.
The AmaZulu forward has scored 10 goals in 10 appearances in all competitions this campaign, already moving beyond the seven goals he managed in 19 Betway Premiership matches during his debut season last term.
Makaab, the CEO of ProSport International, believes improved confidence has been central to Ngwenya’s scoring run. However, he says the striker must sustain that form over the remainder of the campaign if he is to attract serious attention.
“I think all good strikers thrive on confidence, and when they start scoring goals, they start believing they can do really well for a period of time. The most important thing is that it’s got to continue,” Makaab told KickOff.
“The form that he has shown now, over the past five months, he has to take into the rest of the season. If he continues in this way, there is little doubt in my mind that there will be serious interest in him going forward. Interest outside the borders of South Africa.”
Ngwenya’s physical strength and ability to operate in different attacking roles are among the qualities Makaab believes could appeal to potential suitors.
The striker can play centrally, move into the channels and contribute with his back to goal or while facing the opposition’s defence.
“What I do like about him is that he’s aggressive, he’s a typical box nine. Even though he can play through the channels, he can play with his back to goal, he can play facing the opposition goals.
“I think one of his real attributes is that he is strong and powerful, and he’s fearless in the box. That is important for a striker,” noted Makaab.
Despite the attention generated by Ngwenya’s goals, Makaab has advised him to remain focused and continue developing other areas of his game.
The agent said he speaks to the player regularly and has stressed the importance of ignoring outside noise while maintaining a strong work ethic.
“I speak to him on a regular basis.
“The most important thing is to keep his feet on the ground, drown out all the noise and just work harder to improve your overall game. Work harder in those aspects you believe needs improving and I’m sure coach Arthur [Zwane] will be working with him.
“And remain humble and the opportunities will present themselves, there’s no doubt in my mind,” added the experienced intermediary.
