Wandile Duba’s second-half hat-trick made him the decisive figure as Kaizer Chiefs beat TS Galaxy 3-0 in the first round of the Carling Knockout Cup at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, according to iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye.
The 22-year-old’s treble secured Kaizer Chiefs’ place in the quarter-finals and took his total to six goals in all competitions this season.
Khanye, a former Amakhosi winger, praised Duba’s determination and said the forward could become a leading striker for the club if he develops greater consistency.
“In today’s game he was clinical and well done to him,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.
“I think he was the difference in the whole game. The boy has a never say die attitude that’s what I’ve observed. Very arrogant and that helps him because he uses it on the pitch, just that obviously he’ll need to control it here and there.”
Khanye also advised Duba to reconsider the celebration he performs after scoring, warning that it could attract criticism during a spell without goals.
“Even that sign he does after scoring he doesn’t need to do that because in three, four games when he doesn’t score it’ll be used against him and it might affect him,” he said.
“He must just keep quiet, get results, and when he scores we’ll clap for him.”
The former Kaizer Chiefs winger said Duba’s effectiveness did not depend on elaborate technical ability. Instead, he highlighted the forward’s movement, strength in possession and willingness to compete for chances.
“He’s not the most skilful striker but what I love about him he makes clever runs, arrogant on the ball and when he has the ball he has that thing that you can’t take it easily from him,” Khanye added.
“He also hustles goals and when you make a mistake he’ll punish you.”
Although Khanye acknowledged that Duba has already produced important performances, he said the next step was to deliver regularly.
“He has games and moments he shows up, he needs to be consistent and I think he can be a top striker for Chiefs,” he said.
