Borussia Monchengladbach open talks to extend highly rated Wael Mohya’s contract

Borussia Monchengladbach have begun concrete negotiations to extend Wael Mohya’s contract beyond June 2028, with the club keen to protect the future of the 17-year-old from growing interest among leading European clubs.

Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that discussions are already under way as Monchengladbach seek to secure the Germany-Morocco winger on improved terms.

Mohya’s progress is being monitored by Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig, according to exclusive information from Africafoot. The interest has prompted Monchengladbach to move forward with talks in an effort to retain the teenager or strengthen their position should he leave in the future.

The negotiations include a possible increase to Mohya’s salary. However, any new agreement is understood to depend on the inclusion of a release clause, which would allow the player to retain options over the next stage of his career.

Despite the attention surrounding him, a move during the winter transfer window currently appears unlikely. The situation could change next summer if Monchengladbach receive an exceptionally high offer for the player.

The club’s financial circumstances may be an important factor in determining Mohya’s future. Monchengladbach need to generate income, leaving them to balance their wish to keep the young talent with the prospect of securing a significant transfer fee.

Mohya’s market value is estimated at 17 million euros by Transfermarkt. The contract negotiations are therefore expected to play a significant role in deciding whether he remains at the German club or becomes the subject of a major sale.

Monchengladbach are due to play Paderborn in their eighth Bundesliga matchday fixture soon.
