Mamady Doumbouya edges Antonio Souaré to become new Guinea FA president
Mamady Doumbouya has been elected president of the Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT) after edging Antonio Souaré by three votes in a closely contested election on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
Doumbouya, who represented the RF224 list, secured 21 votes at the federation’s elective congress to defeat Souaré, who finished with 18 votes.
The result hands Doumbouya a four-year mandate to lead Guinean football, following a competitive race that featured four candidates seeking to take charge of the country’s football governing body.
Guinean news outlet Guineematin.com, through one of its reporters, reported the outcome of the election.
Doumbouya wins tight contest
The presidential race was dominated by Doumbouya and Souaré, whose final tallies left only a narrow gap between the two leading candidates.
Doumbouya, the director-general of ARPT and a figure associated with Conakry-based Union FC, emerged victorious after securing the support needed to take control of FEGUIFOOT for the next four years.
Ibrahima Kalil Kaba, who contested on the Cap 2030 list, finished third with 13 votes, while Mohamed Chérif Haidara, the fourth candidate, failed to secure a single vote.
The outcome brings the election process to a close and confirms Doumbouya and the RF224 list as the incoming leadership of Guinean football.
His victory now sets the stage for a new administration tasked with addressing longstanding development priorities and strengthening the country’s football structures.
Grassroots development among key challenges
Doumbouya faces several important tasks as he prepares to begin his tenure, including improving grassroots football, providing greater support for clubs and raising the competitiveness of Guinea’s national teams.
Developing football at the grassroots level will be a key area of focus, with investment in young players and stronger development structures essential to building a sustainable future for the game.
Support for domestic clubs is another priority for the incoming administration. Improving the conditions in which clubs operate could help strengthen local competitions and create a more favourable environment for player development.
The performance of Guinea’s national teams will also come under scrutiny, with the new leadership expected to pursue measures aimed at improving results and strengthening the country’s standing in African football.
Modernising the management of the federation is equally important as Doumbouya prepares to establish his administration and define its strategic direction.
New administration prepares for four-year term
Following his election, Doumbouya will need to assemble his team and determine the priorities that will guide his four-year mandate.
The composition of his administration and the policies it adopts in the coming months will offer an indication of how the RF224 leadership intends to approach the challenges facing Guinean football.
His election marks the beginning of a new chapter for FEGUIFOOT, with expectations centred on grassroots development, club support, national team progress and improved governance.
With the result confirmed, attention will now turn to the transition to the new leadership and the measures Doumbouya introduces to deliver on those priorities.
The coming months will be crucial in establishing the direction of the federation under its new president.
