Liverpool are considering a move for AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as they assess ways to strengthen their central midfield, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Senegal international is understood to be among the Reds’ preferred options for the position. His technical ability, energy across the pitch and willingness to contribute in attacking phases have made him an appealing candidate as Liverpool examine potential reinforcements.
Camara, 22, was born in Diouloulou and has continued to develop since moving to the European stage. He can operate as a box-to-box midfielder and is noted for his work in regaining possession, passing quality and commitment in challenges.
Those characteristics could suit the demands of the Premier League, where midfielders are required to combine physical strength with technical accuracy and the ability to maintain a high level of activity throughout matches.
Liverpool’s interest is not limited to the Monaco player. Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is also being considered for the central midfield role, while Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha is admired by the club’s hierarchy. Nmecha is not currently regarded as a priority, however.
Camara is therefore one of several names being assessed as Liverpool consider how to improve their midfield options. The Senegal player’s situation could prove complicated because he remains under contract with AS Monaco until 30 June 2029.
His current market value is estimated at 55m euros by Transfermarkt, meaning any approach would potentially involve a significant fee. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s interest will develop into a formal move for the player.
Monaco, meanwhile, face the prospect of trying to retain an important part of their project while attracting growing attention from leading European clubs. Camara earns 1,380,000 euros (897,000,000 FCFA) per year in France.
Liverpool will soon play Chelsea in the last 16 of the EFL Cup.
