Mike Makaab says Sipho Mbule is likely to continue his career outside South Africa when his one-year contract with Zakho expires at the end of the season.
The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has impressed since moving to Iraq, where his performances have helped revive his career. Mbule has established himself as one of Zakho’s leading performers and has featured in all but one of the club’s league matches.
He has scored once and provided one assist, but his influence has extended beyond his direct contribution to goals. His ability to carry the ball, remain composed under pressure and play through opposition defences has made him an important figure in Zakho’s midfield.
Mbule has also become more willing to shoot from distance and has developed into a more complete box-to-box midfielder, with his defensive work improving during his time in Iraq.
Makaab says the priority is to keep Mbule overseas next season, whether that means extending his stay with Zakho or securing a move to another club.
“Mbule will stay overseas,” Makaab told Soccer Laduma.
The agent added that Mbule is enjoying his football and is in outstanding physical condition. He was named man of the match in his most recent appearance, a performance that particularly impressed Makaab.
“He is incredibly happy. He was man of the match in his last game. I watched him. I’ve never seen him fitter. I’ve never seen him cover so much ground. His long range passing is on another level. He is very happy and that’s the most important thing with Mbule,” Makaab said.
Mbule’s consistent displays for Zakho could attract interest from clubs in both the Middle East and Europe. A move to Europe would represent an ambition for the player, who previously played for SuperSport United.
For now, Makaab’s expectation is that Mbule will remain outside South Africa beyond the conclusion of his contract, with his current form giving him the opportunity to continue building his career overseas.
