Hussein Rahimi takes Asian Champions League Elite scoring lead as Moroccan stars shine
Moroccan players made a major impact in the AFC Champions League Elite on Monday, with Hussein Rahimi scoring again for Al Ain after Youssef En-Nesyri produced a late moment of brilliance for Al-Ittihad.
En-Nesyri helped Al-Ittihad secure a 2-1 victory over Uzbek side Neftchi, scoring in the final minute with a direct free-kick. It was the first time in his career that the striker had found the net from a set-piece of that type.
The former Sevilla forward’s late contribution completed a significant day for Moroccan players in Asia’s premier club competition, with Rahimi also continuing his outstanding run of form for Al Ain.
The 24-year-old scored a superb goal against Iranian club Tractor in the third round of the AFC Champions League Elite on Monday. He converted a precise cross from the right, escaping close attention before finishing confidently.
Rahimi’s latest goal took his total to five in three matches in the competition. He has now scored in each of his appearances, having netted twice against Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr and twice against Iraqi club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya before adding another against Tractor.
His consistent performances have moved him to the top of the competition’s scoring chart. Rahimi’s goals have also underlined his importance to Al Ain, as he continues to make the difference in decisive moments.
