Kaizer Chiefs turn to Carling Knockout after CAF Confederation Cup disappointment
Kaizer Chiefs will look to put their CAF Confederation Cup disappointment behind them when they begin their Carling Knockout campaign against TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
The first-round tie is scheduled to kick off at 19:00, just four days after Chiefs were eliminated by Red Arrows.
The South African side had attempted to overturn a first-leg deficit from Zambia but could not progress, leaving the Carling Knockout as their immediate opportunity to challenge for silverware.
“It’s disappointing falling out of the CAF competition,” wing-back Reeve Frosler told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
“The guys did well to try and get back after the first leg in Zambia, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
“But now our full focus goes onto the Carling Cup.”
Chiefs face a TS Galaxy side Frosler regards as a difficult opponent, although he believes the nature of a cup competition can change the conditions of a match.
“TS Galaxy have been a tough opponent for us in the last few games,” he said.
“But it’s a cup competition and cup games are always different.
“We will look to put our best foot forward on Tuesday and try and go all the way in the Carling Cup.”
Frosler said the team’s ambition was to win a trophy, with the competition offering them a chance to do so.
“We have ambitions of wanting to win a trophy and this gives us an opportunity to try and do that,” he said.
Chiefs also have the Soweto Derby to prepare for at the weekend, but Frosler insisted the squad was concentrating on the meeting with TS Galaxy before turning its attention to Saturday’s fixture.
“Obviously, we’ve got the (Soweto) Derby coming up on the weekend as well, but our attention is on TS Galaxy now and will use the game as preparation for Saturday,” he said.
