Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are aiming to complete an unbeaten 2026 Hollywoodbets Super League campaign after extending their commanding run with a 5-0 win over TS Galaxy Queens at Wits Football Stadium on Sunday.
Godfrey Sapula’s side sit top of the table on 34 points from 12 matches. They have won 11 games and drawn one, leaving them with two fixtures still to play in the 14-match season.
The Sundowns coach said his players want to maintain their standards and use the remainder of the campaign to establish an even higher benchmark.
“The teams below us, you can see that everybody is fighting, it’s not predictable who’s gonna win against. If you also check the other stream but because for us we knew that because it’s 14 matches we can actually push to give everything we have in all the matches and try to win all the matches because our target was to say 14 games compared to 30 is less than half so we can actually win all 14 games,” Sapula said.
“Actually that was the target for us and so far so good for us. We were able to actually win, out of the 12 played already winning 11 and one draw. Yes, maybe the standard can still improve and yeah but we also want to make sure that as the other teams are coming, we also try to raise the bar a bit.”
Sapula said the club’s ambitions extend beyond domestic success, with the squad’s physical preparation being enhanced ahead of future continental competition.
He explained that the team is assessing the physical demands of the women’s game and using that information to raise the intensity of its own performances, even when matches appear to be under control.
“For us, we try and check where the benchmark is and our analysis it’s really clear when it comes to the growth in the women’s game and the evolution, physicality is number one,” the coach added.
“You know if you had also watched WAFCON, you could see that the physicality is up there, meaning for us to compete, we’re gonna raise our level of physicality. Our physical exertion also, you can check even when we are winning or leading we don’t compromise on physicality because we have targets.
“The players have the GPS vests, GPS data, to check, to say come let’s see, what was your physical exertion in this game. So, we are driven by our own ambitions and we are the benchmark obviously here but our benchmark is not here, it’s CAF.
“To keep up with that it means we gotta do certain things properly here which obviously increase the level of physicality in our game and we are trying to do that even when there’s no resistance, we put our own resistance.”
