Loic Bade regains consciousness after frightening head injury in Leverkusen defeat
Bayer Leverkusen defender Loic Bade has shown encouraging signs of recovery after suffering a frightening head injury during his side’s 3-0 Bundesliga defeat to TSG Hoffenheim.
The centre-back was carried off on a stretcher following a heavy collision with Hoffenheim forward Max Moerstedt late in Sunday’s encounter, prompting immediate concern among his teammates and coaching staff.
Leverkusen head coach Carles Martínez subsequently provided a reassuring update, confirming that Badé had regained consciousness and was able to communicate with those around him.
“The most important thing now, of course, is that he is doing well. He is talking to us. He is in the shower right now,” Martínez said, according to reports following the match.
Martinez reveals severity of the incident
The Leverkusen manager explained that the initial situation had been particularly alarming, with Badé reportedly unconscious for approximately 90 seconds after the collision.
According to Martínez, the 26-year-old also had no recollection of what had happened immediately after the incident.
The defender required several minutes of treatment on the pitch before being carried away on a stretcher, with medical staff assessing his condition.
Although the subsequent update offered some relief, Leverkusen have yet to establish a definitive diagnosis or confirm how long the centre-back might be unavailable.
Leverkusen await further medical assessment
Badé’s injury represents another concern for Leverkusen following their disappointing defeat in Sinsheim.
The Werkself conceded three times in the closing stages after a largely competitive encounter, with Hoffenheim scoring through Andrej Kramarić, Alexander Prass and Moerstedt.
Leverkusen must now assess Badé’s condition ahead of a busy schedule that includes Wednesday’s DFB-Pokal second-round fixture against FC Nürnberg.
However, the defender’s immediate recovery remains the priority, and his availability for the upcoming matches will depend on the results of further medical examinations.
For now, the positive news is that Badé is conscious, communicating and reportedly feeling better after the frightening incident. No confirmed return date has been announced.
