Real Madrid end Barcelona’s historic home winning streak in El Clasico

Real Madrid ended Barcelona’s remarkable unbeaten home run in La Liga by winning at Spotify Camp Nou, bringing a difficult week for Hansi Flick’s side to a close.

According to Sport, Real Madrid became the first team to defeat Barcelona at the stadium in the domestic competition since the ground was renovated. The result also marked a rare home setback for the Catalan club after it began playing at the redeveloped Spotify Camp Nou.

Barcelona had opened the stadium with a 4-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao and went on to win 18 consecutive La Liga matches at home. During that sequence, they scored 58 goals and conceded only 11.

That run came to an end in El Clasico, although Barcelona’s performance was well below their best. Flick’s players did not produce the level of football expected from them, but they were not considered deserving of defeat either.

Barcelona’s next La Liga fixture is against Deportivo Alaves on 31 October 2026. Real Madrid will face Racing Santander on 1 November 2026.

Oriol Jove, a journalist with RAC1, noted that Barcelona have recorded a run of 19 successive victories at Spotify Camp Nou on only three other occasions in the club’s history. Those previous sequences came between 1958 and 1960, from late 1973 until late 1974, and between 2012 and 2014.

The statistics include Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Real Mallorca in the stadium’s farewell match before renovation work began, according to Jove.

Despite losing to Real Madrid, Barcelona have been beaten only once at home since returning to the stadium. That defeat came against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

The latest loss was therefore not Barcelona’s first at the renovated venue. Although they had maintained a perfect record in La Liga, they were beaten 2-0 by Atletico Madrid in the first leg of last season’s Champions League quarter-final.

Real Madrid’s victory nevertheless ended Barcelona’s extended sequence of home wins in the Spanish top flight and prevented the Catalan club from matching another historic run at Spotify Camp Nou.
